- Best Original, Long-Form, Standalone Production
Well done Trev and Simon and episode 2 is now available to download and listen to.
We'll be repeating our interview in a special Sound of Sunday Autumn Special on October 30.
Lucky Number 22
Number 22 was the winning number on the Sainsbury's Draw this weekend.
Paul Le Feuvre picked the number from his bag of balls during Neil Ogden's Sound of Sunday and the winner, Carol, was heard being given her prize later in the show.
Next weekend's draw winner will be picked during HRB's live coverage of the fifth Basingstoke Half Marathon.
Trev and Simon Back on The Sound of Sunday
Saturday morning TV legends Trev Neal and Simon Hickson will be this weekend celebrity drawmasters on The Sound of Sunday as well as talking about their latest project.
The duo, who entertained over 2 million people as part of Going Live and then Live and Kicking for 10 years from 1987, have a new free audio podcast called Strangeness in Space. Episode 1 is available to download and listen to right now at www.strangenessinspace.com. It has been funded by a crowd funding Kickstarter campaign and also stars Sophie Aldred and Rufus Hound.
There'll no doubt be a few Saturday morning Tv memories too, as there were when they last appeared on the show, on 1 October 2006, at the time of the 30th anniversary of Saturday morning TV.
Hear Trev and Simon live on the show this weekend (16 August).
The Froyle Fete 2015
It's always great to get out of the studio and once a year we take the show on location to the Froyle Fete. This annual village fete has been running for 69 years and is always a good afternoon. HRB's Paul le Feuvre provides the PA and we record an edition of The Sound of Sunday at the event.
This year's show went out on 26 July.
New Series New Look
Well it's too long since the last post on this blog and the last proper update to this website, but as we enter into the 25th series of The Sound of Sunday, i thought it was about time we gave it the attantion it needs. So watch out for some serious additions and updates over the coming weeks.
The new series starts this weekend on HRB with a new competition, but the return of the usual features such as Superman 1940s Syle, Soap Update and of course we will choose a winner for this weekend's Sainsbury's Draw. Look out soon for our London Anniversary special and our Summer special which will come from the Froyle Fete.We also have a rather catchy new theme tune and associated jingles!
Join us by your beds at Basingstoke Hampshire Hospital on Channel 6 or online at www.hrbasingstoke.co.uk live from 1.30pm.
Happy New Year
After all the excitement of another very successful Christmas Show, The Sound of Sunday took a break for the last Sunday of the year to make way for the Most Requested of the Year countdown. But we're back live this Sunday as usual at 1.30pm.
We have the weekly Sainsbury's draw, the retuyrn of the Brain Teaser and we'll follow all the weekend's local and national sport.
It's hard to believe that it will be the second half of this series with only breaks for the Most Requested of the Decade chart on January 26th and the weekend of the National Hospital RAdio Awards in March to come before the summer break in June. We'll be going to the annual hospital radio showpiece event in March with 3 nominations for HRB including my programme that I made at the final public tour of BBC TV Centre last February. It's still hard to believe that such a building could be closed. Since recording the programme on the last public tour of the building, I have seen countless photos of the building as it is now and as it used to be, and read lots of stores from those who have worked there for many years. The last department only moved out a few weeks ago and the BBC is still clearing the site. Planning permission was granted just a couple of weeks ago for what the new owners want to do with it, and I have also read about the plans that BBC Production are making for moving back into the newly refurbished studios 1, 2 and 3 towards the end of next year when the building of a hotel and flats will be well underway and the centre part of the building will be a public area. It will certainly be very different, but at least it will be open and being used again.
It’s About Time
It's about time.
Giving this site a refresh is something that has been on that list of things to do for ages now. The revamp brings the whole site into line with the blog section. Much of the content is the same although there is still stuff to transfer from the old site over the coming weeks.
You can still buy from Amazon though and we'll continue adding some featured products on these pages.
It's been a while since I last wrote a blog entry. Since then I've been part of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park over the summer. It hardly seems a year since London 2012, but the legacy of the Olympics and Paralympics lives on and from what I've seen as a Park Champion at the events held there over the summer, Queen Elizabeth is going to be every bit as amazing in the future as it was last year.
Join us this Sunday at 1.30 for another live show featuring all the regular features plus Anne from Shopmobility will be talking about the second Shopmobility Abseil that will be happening at Basingstoke and North Hants Hospital on 13 October.
Join us on Sunday at 1.30pm.
Back this Sunday
We return this Sunday at 1.30 for our new series. All the regular features are there, some in a slightly different order, and we’re a little shorter this week as at 3pm, HRB has a live show from St Lucia.
We like pushing the boundaries of technology at HRB and the list of different countries we have broadcast live from continues to grow. President of the Hospital Broadcasting Association June Snowden will be presenting the programme, and explaining exactly why she’s there.
Joing us from 1.30 this Sunday.
Time for a Break
It was agreat show to end the series on – 5 hours of the Jubilee Thames Pageant as part of a very memorable Diamond Jubilee weekend,
It was a show that we knew something about how it would work before it started but as with all live events, you can never predict exactly what will happen.
We included lots of the atmosphere of the day with the help of reporters along the route and on the actual boats. I hope it got across what was going on to our listeners.
That show was number 47 of the series. We’re back on Sunday June 24th at 1.30pm with show 1 of the new season.
Last Day of the Premier League
For one afternoon each year, HRB goes a little football crazy. It’s the only time when all ten Premier League games kick off at the same time and invariably there is much nail biting going on for the fans of those teams facing relegation. Last year the teams in those relegation places changed something like 14 times during the afternoon.
This year two of the three teams who will be playing in the Championship next season are known, but avoiding the third place will be the target for QPR and Bolton. QPR could play a part in who wins the title, they have to get a result against Manchester City, but should they do so, they could send the title Manchester United’s way.
This year, the last day games will form part of an extended Sound of Sunday (we normally do it as a separate show). We’ll have reporters at all the games and we’ll try and convey the excitement of the occasion and tell the story of the afternoon even for those who aren’t huge football fans.
In the 90 minutes before kick off, there’ll be a sprinkling of the usuaul SOS features and of course requests throughout in Music on Demand.
Join us on Sunday 1.30 – 5.30pm by your beds on channel 6 or online at www.hrbasingstoke.co.uk.
